*** is the UFC doing ?

Prediction: Makhachev  |  Submission  |  Round 1

The UFC has a young undefeated fighter from Japan that already has 5 wins in the UFC and is currently ranked. What do you think they decide to do with him ?

Obvious they put him against another young talented guy that's dangerous and unranked but could possible win and kill Taira's hype...also the fight is gonna open the prelins of the card so nobody watches it...like what ? Why?

This is the flyweight division! We need new, young, talented guys in the rankings. Both Taira and Van should be getting ranked opponents to climb the ladder and THEN we can have they fight each other in the future if they keep winning.

Strickland vs Costa

Prediction: Makhachev  |  KO/TKO  |  Round 2

Costa comes in with a wrestle-heavy gameplan and TKO's/Submits Strickland round 3-4. We've seen 1 round sprinter Abus take Strickland's back. Yes, Strickland got up easily, but Costa is more experienced than Abus and definitely has better grappling IQ. Costa being massive will be a huge problem for Strickland.

Paulo has multiple paths to victory in this fight and grappling is definitely one. This is not being talked about enough, as I do think Sean's defensive grappling is overrated.

When has costa ever came in with a wrestling heavy gameplan? He is going to meet Sean in the middle and bang it out. I actually think he has a good chance of winning but I can almost guarantee he’s not going to wrestle Sean

Costa ain't wrestling anyone.

He's gonna stand and bang against Strickland, but being 5 rounds makes it more difficult for him to win imo.

@brooks I wouldn’t say that was a wrestling heavy gameplan though, he decided to mix it up for whatever reason (I haven’t rewatched the rockhold fight since it happened). I highly doubt his gameplan for this fight is going to be wrestling heavy, he brawls with everyone he fights

If he can set a strong TD threat early after dominating Sean for a round, he can find openings and I think he will be more successful than Dricus on the feet.

I don’t think he needs to wrestle to have striking g success. The biggest caveat of Sean’s style is that he has no power to back up what he’s doing. He is a much more technical striker than costa and can jab him up at will, but the problem is costa will be landing the much more impactful shots and walking forward the whole time. Sean isn’t going to gain his respect because he doesn’t pack enough punch. I highly doubt costa is going to wrestle here; maybe he attempts 1 or 2 takedowns but he’s never had a grappling heavy gameplan. Hes also fought significantly better strikers than Sean on multiple occasions so idk why he would suddenly need to grapple, if anything it would wear him out faster since Sean would get right back up & costa would need to use explosions and lots of energy to get him down

the only person that can "kill Taira's hype" is yourself. You can form your own opinion without following the mindless mob. There is no shame in losing, this is a sport. The Super Bowl champs lose multiple games during the season. Both fighters are likely to improve from this fight win or lose and move on

If you think Taira losing this fight is not gonna hurt his career and complicate his way to the belt you are delusional.

It doesn't matter if you count yourself a "true fan" and not the "mindless mob" the reality is that if he loses this fight he will need to rebuild himself and work on another win streak to go for the title again. There is absolutely no reason for the ufc to take this risk. Not in this division, It's just a bad business decision.

I agree with you that both fighters are young and will improve from this fight likely moving on with good wins but Saying that there is "no shame in losing' and that "this is just the sport" is a good thing to say to whoever loses. The truth in MMA is that it DOES matter if you win or lose and a single loss matters way more then in any other sport beside boxing.

It takes alot to erase that loss from the fans memory.

I never said it wouldn't hurt his career or complicate his way to the belt, but this isn't the business of 'get Taira a title shot'. This is a business that puts on almost weekly cards with individual fighters who win, lose, or even draw.

I'm also sure you know that there is no requirement for a title shot. Look at my boy Chito.

And again my point is, who cares what other people think? "It takes alot to erase that loss from the fans memory." What about your memory?
